Richard McLean Pou, 71, of Neeses, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2024.  Born in North, South Carolina, Richard was son of the late Shelby McLean Pou and Lynn Mack Pou.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Zayda Verhooks Pou of Summerton; his sisters, Jeri Lynn Williams (Glen) of Colorado Springs, and Joye Hallman (Trey Beasley) of Barnwell. Richard also leaves behind a loving extended family of nieces and nephews: Byron Williams (Mandy) of Columbia, Jeff Williams (Lisa) of Chapin, Morgan Huffstetler (Jason) of Bamberg, Jessica Busch (Kris) of Summerville, Andrew Hallman (Skyler Williams) of Barnwell, Bryson Hallman (Danyale) of Bamberg, and Gracelynn Gleaton of Barnwell.  He was cherished by eight great-nieces and nephews: Sean, Kathleen, and Dylan Williams of Columbia, Harper Williams of Chapin, and EmmaLynn, Elanor, and Everly Huffstetler of Bamberg, and Arlee Grace Busch of Summerville.

A proud graduate of the Class of 1971 from Hunter-Kinard High School, Richard excelled in both academics and athletics, playing football, basketball, baseball, and track.  He attended Wofford College, where he pursued further education.

Richard built a remarkable career, beginning as a Quality Control Inspector and later transitioning to an Engineer with Brown and Root Industrial.  His work took him across the United States and around the globe to places like Venezuela and Indonesia.  Later in life, he was the owner-operator of JRJ Concrete and alongside his wife, as co-owner of Edisto Express Trucking Company.

Richard was a natural conversationalist with a unique ability to connect with anyone on any subject.  His love for music was ever-present throughout his life.  A talented guitarist and songwriter, Richard played in a bluegrass band during his younger years, sharing his passion for music with those around him.  Richard spent countless hours at Chaplin's Pond, enjoying the peace of the outdoors.  He loved his dogs and rescued countless others.

He often spoke with gratitude for the Christian foundation instilled by his parents, who ensured he grew up in a faith-filled home.

Richard was a beloved brother and uncle, known for his wit and kind spirit. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Hebron Southern methodist Church Cemetery Fund (753 Pond Bluff Road, North, SC 29112)

May his memory be a blessing to all who loved him.
