Marvin Lee Laird

Marvin Lee Laird, 48, of Swansea, was called to Heaven on Wednesday, April 20, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, April 23, 2021 at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Butler officiating. Burial will follow in Gaston First Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Laird was born in Lexington County, a son of Lee Roy Spires and Minnie Pearl Laird Spires. He was a dedicated son, and a loving father. Beginning at a young age, Lee was known to be a very accomplished carpenter and built many family homes in the Lexington and Richland area throughout his life. Survivors include his mother, Minnie Pearl Laird Spires (Neal) of Swansea; two daughters, Callista Laird and Mikayla Laird of Gaston; granddaughters, Elaina Laird and Mila Partin of Gaston; sisters, Laura (Mark) Jumper, Loretta Laird and Angela Laird of Swansea and Michelle Spires of Orangeburg; brothers, Jason (Angela) Spires of Swansea and Johnny Spires of Orangeburg; his companion, Michelle Smith of Gilbert and former wife, Sylvia Crim Laird of Gaston and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father, Lee Roy Spires, maternal grandparents, Thomas and Lorene Laird and paternal grandparents, Le Grande Spires and Mary Hughes; two brothers, Tommy Lee Spires and Anthony Mark Spires. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home and other times at the home of the deceased.
