William “Mr. Willie” or “Papa” Hoffman, 76, of Swansea, passed away on September 6, 2021. Even though a world pandemic took him away from us, his loving heart left a beacon of light for all in his community. His family meant more to him than anything else in this world, something he proudly and often mentioned. He was his family’s biggest cheerleader.Papa had a gift of making everyone feel like family.Before his health started to decline, he would make a point to check in on those he cared about often.We will remember Papa for his loving nature, his playfulness, and his occasional endearing stubbornness. He was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the most loving parents, the late Virgil and Elizabeth Hoffman. He was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church, Neeses, attended Faith Baptist, Swansea, and Rocky Grove Baptist Church, Salley. He started his career life in the field of carpentry working for a family member, later working for the Town of Swansea in the water department and ending his career with the town as the Chief of Police. Upon the death of his wife Doris, he become sole owner of the Swansea Coffee Shop and just recently had to close it and retire. Survivors include his wife, Wanda; two sons, Wendell (Beth) of Gaston and Tony (Courtney) of Lexington; a proud Papa to his grandchildren, Matthew (Lauren), Hunter, Braydon, Bella, and Kaden; four sisters, Shelby Jean Amaker of North, Gloria Judy of Ladson, Mary Westbury of St. George, and Joan Almond of New Ellenton; and One brother, Thurmond of Salley. He was pre-deceased by a wife, Doris Williamson Hoffman; sisters, Evelyn Corbett, and Virdie Lee Williams; and a brother, Shuler Hoffman. Due to the increase in COVID cases, the Hoffman family is not receiving visitors during this time.
