William Carroll Etheredge

November 2, 1933 — July 25, 2014

William Carroll Etheredge, 80, died at home Friday, July 25, 2014, while surrounded by family and friends. Born November 2, 1933, in North, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Uriah “Dick” Carroll Etheredge and Wilma Knotts Etheredge. He graduated from North High School and earned both his undergraduate and Master’s degrees from Clemson University in Industrial Arts and Industrial Technology. He taught vocational education in SC public schools for 37 years, seven of which were with the State Board of Technical Education. William served 7 years in the Army Reserves as a communications specialist. He was a charter member of Saluda River Baptist Church in West Columbia where he served as a deacon, as long time secretary of Sunday school, and on various committees. He had many hobbies and interests including woodworking, repairing, gardening, hunting, fishing, and outdoor cooking.He was a Mason for over 50 years, most of which were with the Sinclair (154) Masonic Lodge in West Columbia. He also served many years on the West Columbia Planning Commission. William is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Platt Etheredge; daughters Erin Fisher (Mike), Willette Corley (Jamie) and Carla Hart (Jeff); grandsons Miles, Chase, and Blake Fisher, and Perry Corley, and sister Rebecca E. Livingston (Mac). He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, from 12:00 to 1:30 pm at Saluda River Baptist Church, 3459 Sunset Blvd., followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at 4:30 pm at Bull Swamp Baptist Church in North, South Carolina, followed by a brief visitation there. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Saluda River Baptist Church Family Life Center or to Bull Swamp Baptist Church. Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home (www.mcalhanyfuneralhome.com) in North is helping the family with arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Angie, Anna, and Laura of Tri-County Hospice.
