Mr. William M. Deal, 93, a Veteran of World War II, serving his country and the Lord, lost his final battle after sustaining injuries in an auto accident just after his birthday in 2012. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at Swansea First Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Wilder officiating.Burial will be in Melrose Memorial Garden.The casket will be placed in the church at 2:00 p.m.The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North. Active pallbearers will be Jason Liester, Addison Livingston, Joe Burns, John Sturkie, Kary Hoffman and Joe Sharpe.Honorary escorts will be Deacons of Swansea First Baptist Church and members of the Cheerful Workers Sunday School class. Mr. Deal was born in Lenoir, North Carolina, a son of the late Fred M. and Mamie Lindsay Deal.He was retired from the lumber business and bought and sold rental property.Buster, as he was known by his family in North Carolina, had a passion for quail hunting especially on trips to his nephew, Dr. Ron Deal’s plantation in Georgia.Another passion was golf which he played up to the age of 89 with friends in North Carolina and for many years with the boys at Hidden Valley.In 1974 he played well enough in the Columbia City Tournament to receive his trophy on television.Over his 60 years of playing golf he experienced making a hole-in-one at a Hilton Head tournament and a double-eagle in a tournament in North Carolina.Buster had many fond memories with his nephew, Steve Deal an brother-in-laws, Robert Gibbons and Jim Cole and his sons David and James. He was an active member of Swansea First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and he was a former member of the Swansea Town Council.He was a life member of the Swansea Lions Club where he recently received his 60 year pin. Survivors include two sons, David Deal of Columbia and James Deal of Swansea.His grandchildren that he loved dearly, Meagan and Kevin Deal both of West Palm Beach, Florida and Brian Deal of Ft. Stewart, Georgia.One sister, Mary Cole of Raleigh, North Carolina (formerly of Lenoir, NC). His wife of 54 years, Imogene G. Deal, went to be with the Lord in 2010 and has been waiting for him there.He also was predeceased by siblings, Lindsey Deal, Joe Deal, Virginia Bradford, Emily Gibbons and Julia Alexander.
