William A. Chavis

William A. Chavis, 74, of Swansea, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 23, 2015. Mr. Chavis was born in Rockingham, North Carolina on August 4, 1940 a son of the late W. E. and Geraldine Foster Chavis.He served proudly in the U. S. Navy and was retired from CMC Steel Company in Cayce, SC after 45 years of employment. Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious loving memories are his devoted wife of 50 years, Willie Mae Chavis, sons Scott Williams (Debbie), Phillip Williams (Joyce Anthony) and Farrell Williams (Barb); daughters, Wanda Williams and Margie Bryant (Tony Smith) and a son-in-law, Art Manos.He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Jewel Powell and numerous other family members.He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Miriam Manos, 2 sisters, Elizabeth Grooms and Margaret Chavis and a brother, Freddie Chavis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Rocky Grove Baptist Church in Sally, SC with Rev. Johnny O’Cain officiating.Burial will be at Southland Memorial Gardens in West Columbia, SC.The casket will be placed in the church at 10:00 AM, one hour before the service. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 26, 2015from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North (www.mcalhanyfuneralhome.com) and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Rocky Grove Baptist Church, where William was a member.
