Wilbur Legree (W.L.) Jackson died Wednesday morning November 27, 2013 in Pennington, New Jersey from complications of a stroke.He was visiting his daughter, Kathy and her husband. He resided at The Methodist Oaks Retirement Community in Orangeburg, South Carolina.Wilbur was born in North, South Carolina in 1928 (although what was his actual birthdate always was a source of confusion and some humor). After graduating from North High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps.He subsequently joined the Air Force being stationed in England, Germany and on the island of Crete in Greece. His last military assignment was in San Antonio, where he retired in 1969 after over 20 years of service, reaching the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He was very active at St. John’s United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas where he was a member for over 50 years.He was a certified lay speaker and was involved in numerous Emmaus Walks in South Texas throughout the past years.In addition, he participated in the Kairos Prison Ministry--going into the prison and sharing God’s message with the prisoners.He also was a Mason and was a high ranking official in a Masonic Lodge in Fort Worth, Texas in the 1950s. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane, to whom he was married for over 50 years, his father Ward, mother Quinnie, and his brothers Floyd, Harry and O.W. He is survived by his sister Eloise Strickland of North, his son Robert of Seattle, Washington and his daughter Kathy of Pennington, New Jersey-- in addition to many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Visitation will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church outside of North at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 5th immediately followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m.Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in North with a reception to follow. A memorial service at St. John’s United Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
