Virginia Latrelle Dunn

Virginia Latrelle Livingston Dunn, widow of Clarence A. Dunn, Jr., entered heaven rejoicing on October 6, 2020. Virginia was born in Orangeburg County, the eldest daughter of the late Hiram Ransom and Latrelle Hutto Livingston. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Cathy Dunn Elder, sister, Martha Livingston Young, and grandson-in-law, Bryan Eichman. Her survivors include daughters Valenda (Danny) Black of Barnwell, Patty Dunn of Cayce, Libby Dempsey of Cope, and Sandra Johnson of Columbia; son-in-law Lloyd Elder of Clover; grandchildren Susan (Chris) Eichman Sandifer, Sally (Jason) Stafford, John Elder (fiance’ Barbara), Gavin Black, Benjamin (Kimberly) Dempsey, Jason (Renee) Dempsey, Jordan Dempsey, Josh Johnson, & Hannah Johnson; great-grandchildren Morgan Elder, Nicholas Eichman, Sam Dempsey, Brayden Elder, Toby Dempsey, Katy Eichman, Max Dempsey, Jared Dempsey, Mallory Stafford, Abigail Eichman, Everett Stafford, Brantley Eichman; sisters Ruth L. Kruger and Anne (Bobby) Gray; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; special friends Teresa (Sonny) Balthasar and Jimmie Gill. A memorial service will be held 12:00 Saturday, October 10, 2020 at First Baptist Church, North, with visitation one hour before. Friends may call at the home at other times. Virginia was a graduate of North High School and a life-long member of First Baptist Church of North, where she served as Sunday School teacher and church pianist, as well as a member of various committees over the years. She was unstoppable in her desire to share Jesus with whomever she encountered, even in the hours before her death, having asked every hospital worker who came in her room if they knew Jesus. Virginia loved her family and took great pride in sharing the accomplishments of her daughters and grands and great-grands with anyone who would take time to listen. She worked in various businesses during her career but her most beloved job was as secretary at The Pediatric Clinic alongside Drs. Tommy Gue and Ben Pendarvis. She enjoyed helping the families of the children seen there and kept up with so many of the children as they grew and began families of their own. After retirement she worked part-time with The Blossom Shop of Williston in their North location. Virginia had a helper’s heart and spent numerous hours of her life sending cards and notes and letters to people who needed a kind word or a birthday greeting. With her refrigerator covered in pictures of her much-loved family, there can be no doubt that her greatest joy and accomplishment was being the matriarch of her large brood. She was always happy to see whichever of them walked through the door and, the bigger the crowd, the happier she was. A true traditionalist, she cherished family occasions and holidays. And you could be sure there were gifts at Christmas under a tree decorated with ornaments holding memories of her daughters’ childhoods and pictures of her family adorning the limbs of the tree. As the wife of a career soldier, Virginia developed and maintained a patriotic spirit that lived beyond her soldier-husband's lifetime. An American flag has always flown in front of her home, right alongside a Clemson Tiger flag. She could talk Clemson football and Atlanta Braves baseball with the best of them. Everyone is invited to attend but will be requested to follow current guidelines for mask wearing and social distancing to provide a safe environment for all.
