Viola Whitaker Davis

Viola Whitaker Davis, of Swansea, SC, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016. Graveside services will be held at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. Mrs. Davis was born to James Joshua and Margaret Elizabeth Crider Whitaker on September 17, 1926.She graduated from Swansea High School and was married to the late Melvin Julius Davis.Mrs. Davis enjoyed sewing, gardening, fishing and spending time with her family.She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School for 52 years. Survivors include her children, Betty Ann (Larry) Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Rev. Jimmy Davis of Swansea; grandchildren, Ann Marie Smith (Jeff) Glazer of Fort Lauderdale, Jamey (Lisa) Davis of Hartwell, Georgia, Jason (Blythe) Davis of Irmo; and great-grandsons, Coleman and Cooper Glazer of Fort Lauderdale, Bryson and Sawyer Davis of Irmo. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Jane and son, Mike Davis; and siblings, Roy Whitaker, Alma Wilson, and Sallie Wise. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery Fun, c/o Mrs. Edis Mae Hoffman, 239 Myrtle Wise Road, Swansea, SC 29160.
