Thurman “Shorty” Williams, 96, of North, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church in Neeses with Rev. Legrande Taylor, Rev. Henry Chavis and Rev. Samuel Leonard officiating.Burial will be in the church cemetery.The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Mr. Williams was born in Orangeburg County, a son of the late Lloyd and Martha Williams.He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving the Purple Heart after fighting in the Philippines, East Indies and New Guinea.Mr. Williams was the owner of Shorty’s Exxon in North for over twenty years.He was also an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the Carolina Gamecocks.He was a member of Mt. Beulah Pentecostal Holiness Church and married to the late Dessaree Hutto Williams. Survivors include a son, Ricky (Ann) Williams, a daughter, Teresa (Sonny) Balthaser; grandchildren, Chris (Angela) Williams, Gina (Dan) Sneeringer, Michael Adams, Jr., Ashley Churchwell and Brittany Chavis; and seven great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Adams; his brothers, Lloyd S., and Kermet Williams; and a sister, Eartel Walling. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home (www.mcalhanyfuneralhome.com) in North and other times at the home of Mr. Shorty Williams.
