Talmadge Hoyt Goodwin, 88, of Swansea, died Friday. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Melrose Memorial Garden with Rev. David Carter officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Mr. Goodwin was born in Swansea, a son of the late Talmadge Hoyt and Ruby Gibson Goodwin.He was retired from SRS and was a farmer and businessman, an avid golfer, and played baseball in the Palmetto League and the Georgia/Alabama League.He was a Marine Veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific Campaign where he received a Purple Heart.He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was married to the late Betty Ann Goodwin. Survivors include three children, Talmadge Hoyt (Diane) Goodwin, Jr., Jessie W. (Donna) Goodwin and Becky (David) Melton; grandchildren Randee (Joey) Womack, Robin Bruce (Brent) Arbogast, JessicaBrook (Justin) Braiker, Jessie Goodwin, Jr., Katie (Chad) McClary, Beau Franklin, Ashley Williams, J. D. and Talmadge Melton; six great-grandchildren, special friends Bernitha and Charles Randoff. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Monday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North (www.mcalhanyfuneralhome.com) and other times at the home of the son, Jessie Goodwin, 956 Charlie Rast Road, Swansea.
