Shirley C. Hammond

Shirley C. Hammond, 81, of Cayce, S. C., passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 at her residence. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Dixiana Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Platt officiating. Mrs. Hammond was born in West Columbia, S. C. the daughter of the late Elbert Lablue and Grace Gardner Platt. She was retired from General Electric after 48 years of dedicated service.Upon retiring from General Electric,she then enjoyed working for over 10 years as a Greeter at Wal-Mart where she never met a stranger. Survivors include a son, Randy (Kim) Compton of West Columbia; daughters, Cindy (Champ) Spradley of Gaston and Melanie Brewster of Cayce; brother, Douglas (Hazel) Platt of West Columbia; a sister, Judy Helms of West Columbia; sister-in-law, Linda Platt; six grandchildren, Edwin (Freedom) Spradley, Tiffney (Jessica) Spradley, Kayla (Buddy) Crane, Jakobe Pearson, Bryce Compton and Dalton Compton; three great grandchildren, Hunter Spradley, Sullivan Spradley and Morgan Spradley.She was predeceased by a brother, Donald Platt and a sister, Jeannie Platt and a brother-in-law, Thomas Helms. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 16 at Dixiana Baptist Church.Culler-McAlhany (www.mcalhanyfuneralhome.com) will be assisting the family with arrangements.
