Samuel Jackson Calvitt

August 15, 1927 — April 1, 2024

Samuel Jackson Calvitt, of Columbia, SC, went on to his Heavenly home on Monday, April 1, 2024. A native of Norway, SC, Mr. Calvitt was the son of the late Percy McRee and Polly Onley Calvitt. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the owner of Calvitt Electric Company from which he retired at 75 years old to care full time for his wife. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, working jigsaw puzzles, telling stories and going to church. Mr. Calvitt was a lifetime member of Main Street United Methodist Church and attended Christian Life Church for many years with his daughter. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and enjoyed listening to his stories and sharing in his laughter. Mr. Calvitt is survived by his daughter Connie Collins-Morgan (Ron Morgan); his beloved grandsons Christopher Sean Collins and Carter Samuel Collins (Megan); numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. In addition to his late wife, Wilhelmina Kinsey Calvitt, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, Mr. Calvitt was preceded in death by his brothers Claude, JR, Palmer Calvitt and two infant brothers as well as sisters Alice Morgan, Annie Lou Morgan, Mary Ellen Hamilton, Margie Woods, Nina Sharpe, Emma Calvitt and Martha Ann Calvitt. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Christian Life Church in Columbia with burial to follow at Southland Memorial Gardens in West Columbia. The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at Christian Life Church. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to any orphanage of your choice or to Christian Life Church.
