Rev. Robert Dean Valentine, 74, of Pelion, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Funeral service will be he held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Antioch Baptist Church 1477 W. E. Jeffcoat Road, Gaston, SC 29053 with Rev. Steve Young officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Robert Dean Valentine was born in 1949 - a great year - to Ray and Genny Valentine, the second of three children. He joined the Army in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. His daughter, Kristie, was born in 1972. In November of l974, he married his beloved wife, Lou Ann, and became a father to their son, Lance. After being discharged from the Army in 1977, he surrendered to the ministry. After their son, Ryan, was born the family moved to Monroe, Iowa and became church planters. Following a short pastoral time in Melbourne, Missouri, the family moved to South Carolina where Bob and Lou Ann served as Chaplains at Hunting Island State Park for 14 years and subsequently settled in Pelion, S. C., becoming members of Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Lou Ann Valentine; one daughter, Kristie (Gonzalo) Cantu; two sons, Lance Valentine and Ryan (Jennifer) Valentine; Heather Valentine; fourteen grandchildren, Joseph Cantu, Joanna Cantu, Aaron Valentine, Austin Valentine, Lovely Valentine, Enoch Valentine, Emily (Brandon) Zinn, Alyssa (Alex) Marsh, Elijah (Aliyah) Worch, Isaiah (Heather) Worch, Josiah Worch, Samuel Worch, Talyah Worch, Anyah Worch; four great grandchildren, Charles Zinn, Vivian Zinn, Jemma Marsh and Rory Marsh; one sister, Sue (Steve) Wilson; one sister in law Linda Valentine. He was predeceased by his brother Melvin Valentine. Memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church 1477 W. E. Jeffcoat Road, Gaston, SC 29053.
