Richard Arte Robertson, 69, of Lexington, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 17, 2022.
Richard was born June 12, 1952, in Savannah, GA, to the late John Arte Robertson, Sr. and Helen Edith Waters Robertson. As he would say, “The best parents in the world.” He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie Morris Robertson; children, Jonathan Robertson, Jessica (Kenneth) Whetstone, Christa (Tim) Kelley, Kimberly (Trevor) Newby and Wesley (Sha’) Robertson, Sr.; grandchildren, Logan (McKaila) Robertson, Kaleigh (Dillon) Wood, Hunter (Bailey) Whetstone, Peyton Whetstone, Jace Robertson, Hagin Whetstone, Avery Newby, Olivia Whetstone, Lana Kelley, Brylee Robertson, Ella Newby, Beckham Kelley, Ella Kelley, Whitley Robertson, Wesley Robertson, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Bo Wood, McKoy Robertson; Siblings, Jim (Penny) Robertson, Brenda (Eric) Day, Mike (Tammy) Robertson, Carol (Larry) Cheesman, David (Julie) Robertson, Diane (Doug) Horsley, Mary Robertson, and Mark (Kristen) Robertson. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Arte Robertson, Jr.
Throughout his childhood Richard lived in Savannah, Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte, and Columbia. It was in Columbia that he met Bonnie and started his family in 1974. He was a devoted husband, father, Papa, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin. He was also a father figure and spiritual leader to so many other “adopted” family members and friends whose paths he crossed and lives he touched throughout the years. He had a gift for always loving people and seeing only the good in them. He was the best of everything a man could be and a bright light in this world.
Through his love of learning, he became a jack of all trades. He was a contractor, a real estate agent, a broker, a cook, a pilot, a scuba diver, a computer software salesman, a private investigator, a teacher, and an artist, just to name a few of the things that he was able to identify as. “My Richard” loved to challenge himself and explore new things.
Richard was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings and positions. He loved his Heavenly Father and his Savior, Jesus Christ and always strove to be like them. The Gospel and his family were the most important things to him and he made sure others knew what he believed, who he was, and what he stood for.
