Mitchell Junior "MJ” Morton, 87, of Walterboro, SC went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2023, surrounded by his family.
MJ was born on June 29, 1936, in Anderson, SC, to parents Shuler and Sara Morton.
MJ proudly served in the United States Air Force as a 1st Class Airman for 10 years. Though he had many careers throughout his life, he always enjoyed working hard to provide for his family. He never met a stranger and could talk for hours without skipping a beat, especially about C-5 airplanes. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising chickens and riding his blue “Cadilliac” (aka his blue scooter). He loved his dog “Ladybug” and would always ask “Have you ever seen a dog like that” when you would come visit him. He will always be remembered for his smile that could light up a room!
MJ is survived by his daughters Teresa (Donald) Collins, Peggy (David) New, Barbara (John) Sharpe, Pamela (Chuck) Gilbert, Patty (Allen) Williams; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sisters Elizabeth Davenport, Jo McCall, Lillie Mae Bishop; brother Ben (Ruth) Morton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his wife Sarah L Morton of 55 years and infant daughter Tammy Morton.
A memorial service will be held on October 6, 2023 @ 11am at North Pentecostal Holiness Church, 4681 Savannah Highway, North, SC 29112 with Pastor Smoak officiating the service. Burial with follow immediately after the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, 2720 Broughton Street, Orangeburg, SC 29115. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate MJ’s life!
The family would like to say thank you for the extraordinary care provided by Edisto Home Care and Hospice, Eartha Argoe, Tammee Thomas, Jessica Brown, Lawanda Corbitt, the special nurses and staff at Magnolias of Walterboro and everyone with VA Home Based Care! You helped provide him with the best final years of his life and we are forever grateful!
Arrangements have been entrusted to Culler-McAlhaney Funeral Home of North, SC. Memorials made be made in honor of MJ to North Pentecostal Holiness Church at PO Box 425, North, SC 29112.
