Marvin A. Downing

Marvin A. Downing, 74, of North, died Thursday, November 28, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Shull and Rev. Rick Jones officiating.Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery of North with Masonic Rites.The casket will be placed in the church at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Lodge.Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Will Connerly Sunday School class of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Downing was born in Dayton, Ohio, a son of the late Charles O. P. and Vera L. Downing.He was retired from the Town of North as the supervisor of water maintenance, served in the Air Force, was Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America for 22 years and was Fire Chief for the Town of North for 18 years.He was a member of the First Baptist Church of North where he served as a Deacon. Survivors include his wife, Martha Rae of the home; two daughters, Dee Dee (Frank) Feghali of the country of Doha Qatar, and Karyn (George) Wingard of Swansea; two brothers, Roy Downing of Herperia, CA and Jerry Downing of Ogden, UT; one sister, Olga (Charles) Strickland of Altomante Springs, FL; six grandchildren, Kayleen and Georgy Wingard, Sylvia, Elena, Joanna and Melissa Feghali. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North (www.mcalhanyfuneralhome.com) and other times at the home of Barry and Cynthia Amaker, 119 Dogwood Drive, North, SC. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Masonic Lodge.
