Martha Laura "Candy" Dykes

Martha Laura “Candy” Dykes, 87, of Swansea, SC died peacefully at her home on Friday, May 20, 2016.Mrs. Dykes was born at Bull Swamp on March 31, 1929.She was one of 13 children born to the late Aiken and Pearlene Williamson.She was raised by her grandparents David and Rosena Chavis. Mrs. Dykes was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she enjoyed outings with her Sunday School class until her illness no longer allowed.She was a seamstress at Stone Manufacturing and worked at Argus Camera.She was a dedicated homemaker and loving “Nanny.” Mrs. Dykes was the wife of the late Charles Richard Dykes and is survived by two sons, Richard (Pam) Dykes and Lavern (Linda) Dykes; grandchildren, Lara (Larry) Sebok, Sherri (Chris) Craven, PJ (Byron) Calvert, Dustin (Rebekah) Miller; great-grandchildren, Grant and Hudson Sebok, Gracie and Jase Roland Avery Craven, Briley and Brystol Calvert, Emma Miller; her siblings, OnaLee Chavis, VonaLee Williams, Sarah Sharpe, Henry Williamson, Johnnie Williamson, LB Williamson and her loyal dog, Jake. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home on Saturday, May 21, 2016 and other times at the home of Lavern and Linda Dykes, 1113 Sharon Church Road, Swansea, SC.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Young and Rev. Jerry Smith officiating.Burial will follow immediately after the service at the church cemetery.The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service. The family would like to especially thank our special friend and Mrs. Dykes’ caregiver, Lorene Riley, for years of compassion and dedication. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
