Martha Adelaide Boles Axson, a precious mother to her children, at the age of 92, from North, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 9, 2017.Martha was loved by everyone in her community.She served the Lord by cooking fried chicken and lemon pies for the sick, her family and friends.Her coconut cake was famous. Martha loved her church and sang in the choir at Springfield Baptist Church and also was a beloved member of the Hopewell Southern Methodist Church family.She laughed and made jokes that always lightened many spirits.Martha was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and sold many poppies to honor the veterans and husband, J. B. Axson, who served in the Navy. Martha was the daughter of the late James Samuel and Rosa Mae McNeil Boles.She was predeceased by her husband, John B. Axson; brother, James McNeil Boles and sisters, Rachel Francis Axson and Maxie Warren Boles Williams.Surviving are her four children, Marilyn Axson, Anne A. (Tommy) Goodson, John Keith (Margaret) Axson and Cathy A. (Barry) Chastain; grandchildren, Wesley Bar, Tom (Blaire) Goodson, Jennifer (Wally) McAlhany, Austin (Brittany) Goodson, Neil Chastain, Sarah Axson, Natalie Chastain and William Axson; great-grandchildren, Anslee McAlhany, Wallace McAlhany, Greer Goodson, and Helen Goodson. Services for Martha will be Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Hopewell Southern Methodist Church on Hopewell Road, Neeses, SC.The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service.Burial will be in the church cemetery.Visitation will follow immediately afterwards in the fellowship hall.Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home (www.mcalhanyfuneralhome.com) of North is in charge of arrangements.
