Jo Ellen Spires Haigwood

Jo Ellen Spires Haigwood, 81, of Gaston, SC, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Gaston First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Paulling and Rev. Brady Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 before the service in the church on Saturday and other times at the family home in Gaston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Haigwood was born in Lexington County, a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Maefield Sightler Spires. She was a member of Gaston First Baptist Church and retired from Baptist Hospital after over 50 years of service. She loved working in her garden, watching ice skating and doing crafts. She was married to the late Henry Haigwood. Survivors include her daughters, Regina Haigwood and Celeste Haigwood; four grandchildren, Kameron (Derrick) Hendren, Kyle Haigwood, Tasha (Justin) Meek and Lauren Brown; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Phillip (Betty) Spires. She was predeceased by four brothers, Robert E. Spires, Harold C. Spires, David N. Spires and James A. Spires; and a sister, Carolyn Spires Kelly.
