James Carlton Hallman, Sr., 50, of Neeses, SC. Today for most, started out the same as always with the exception of the Hallman Family, but for Heaven the morning opened up as a brighter, cheerier, and more comical place to be and this old world grew a lot dimmer without James Carlton Hallman Sr. “Carlton“. Carlton is riding that M Farmall in heaven with the biggest smile on his face and praising our Lord and Savior. There is no more pain and no more cancer. Carlton gained his wings on April 28,2023. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, 181 Iris Lane, Neeses with Rev. Robbie Croft officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Monday, May 1, 2023 at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North. James Carlton Hallman, Sr. was born on July 1st, 1972, to James and Myrtle Ann Hallman. Carlton went to Heritage Hall Academy where he loved to play soccer. He attended Beaver Creek Baptist Church where he met the love of his life at 11 years old. At just barely 17 years old, he and Melisa only 16 would marry. They had 2 beautiful children, JC Hallman (Ashley) and Bethany Davis (Jeffery), both of Neeses. Then life would get very interesting and amazing with 4 beautiful grandchildren, Ellorie Hallman, Hunter, Chelsea, and Charlee Jean Davis Survivors also include a Brother, Jamie Hallman (Brandie) of Orangeburg; nephews, Jonathan (Jessie) Williams, Russell (Amber) Williams, Austin (Alex) Williams, Ashton Hallman and Cooper Hallman; aunts and uncles, Timmy (Pam) Benton, Mazie Benton, Frances Altman; many cousins and great aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Carlie and Everlyn Hallman and Hugh and Mary Benton. Carlton was a people person and was loved by so many. He had many special friends who will forever be family. Throughout his life, Carlton was referred to in many ways. He was a son, brother and friend. He would go on to become a business owner, master mechanic and maintenance technician “jack of all trades master of none” he would say, but we all know that’s not true! IF IT HAD WHEELS OR TRAX, HE COULD FIX IT! He was also a manager and leader, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. He would become a husband, father and grandfather and a follower of Christ. Carlton was a great Father and the one thing I admired most was that our children knew they could count on their daddy and could just talk to daddy and that is something to be truly cherished. The one thing he truly enjoyed and found most precious in this life was spending time and laughing with his grandchildren. Carlton was an employee of International Paper (Sylvamo), a Master Mason and a member of Omar Shrine. To know Carlton was to love him. He was a people person and absolutely loved to talk. If you went for a ride with him, one thing you were sure to find out is where all the best hot dogs were from every gas station in any direction and every driveway he ever put in while working for the state. Cartoon as he was known by some could tell you about a joke with a straight face and 2 minutes later you were still trying to decide if it was a joke or if you were part of the joke. He took every opportunity to mentor as many young people as he could, sometimes against their will. The ones reading this will understand completely what I mean by that but in the end each of them became MEN and professionals in some part due to his leadership. Some of his all-time favorite sayings were “Work smarter not harder” and“If you don’t like this speed you won’t like the next” While many did not agree with all his opinions, no one can deny he was unafraid of speaking up on what he believed in and no cause was greater on his list than after his terminal cancer diagnosis. Carlton made a commitment to make sure as many people as he could knew the way to heaven before he left this world. I saw him witness in many uncomfortable situations in his last few months where most of us, myself included would not have been so brave by simply saying “If you don’t know the way to Heaven come see me”. So, as you read this please let Carlton’s words once again be on your ears and if you don’t know the way to heaven come see me or another Christian brother or sister for guidance. This was his dying wish to be with all of you again one day. Special thanks to Jim Gates and Edisto Shrine Club Edisto, Chandler Blair, Sylvamo Woodyard Maintenance, Chris Bates Hospice and our amazing nurses Christy Gibson, Danielle Askin and Amber who became our family. It takes special people to do this job and take care of families during the worst times of their lives. Christy spent more time with us than anyone in the last month and at this point I don’t know how I will do day to day without her. She and Carlton developed a bond that I cannot explain. When he was down no matter the time, he would say I just need to talk to Christy and no matter the time she would talk him through it. I will never forget the compassion love and support they have shown us during this time. Pallbearers will be Brian Hamilton, Robert Hallman, Russell Williams, Patrick Chavis, Austin Laird, Chris Bates, Chandler Blair, Benji Altman and James Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Bonnette, Henry Brown, Stoney Bachman, Charles Ray Brown and members of Dantzler Lodge 318. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home (www.mcalhanyfuneralhome.com) is in charge of arrangements.
