James Clemon (J. C.) Gartman passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the age of 81. Funeral services will be conducted at Independent Fellowship of The Living Word 3595 Highway 6 Lexington, SC 29073 on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation at the same location from 1:00 pm until the start of the service with Pastor Jack Whitlow and Pastor David Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery 580 Jones Bridge Road North, SC 29112. J. C. was born on May 7, 1943, in Orangeburg County a son of the late Wilbur C. Gartman and the late Kathleen Jeffcoat Gartman. He was a loving husband, father, and papa. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and was passionate about people and his animals. He was a strong fighter until the end. J. C. is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Barbara Hewitt Gartman; two sons and four daughters, Steve (Teresa) Gartman, Stacy (Bryan) Jumper, Sherry Smith, Jay Gartman, Lynn (Johnny) Blakenship, and Angie Gartman; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one brother Jimmy Ray (Helen) Gartman; four sisters, Sue Davis, Wilma Elkins, Rose Roberts and Nancy (Mike) Black. and a number of great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Beatrice Stevenson and Sylvia Gartman. Pallbearers will be Rocky Dennis, Rhett Smith, Justin Hutto, Jeffery Joiner, Stephen McCormick and Brian Hewitt. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of J.
