Irene Compton Metz, 85, passed away on July 16, 2024, in Gaston, South Carolina. Born on December 12, 1938, in Vansant, Virginia, Irene was a cherished member of her community and a dedicated professional in the real estate and property management sectors.

Irene embarked on her career as a real estate agent in Virginia, later transitioning into property management in the Carolinas. She notably worked at Lakeside Apartments in Columbia, SC, for over two decades and was an active member of the Harbison Community Board until her retirement. Her professional dedication was paralleled by her commitment to Harmony Baptist, where she was a regular attendee.

Irene's life was marked by her love for her family and an array of hobbies. She was a tennis player and golfer, an avid reader, and enjoyed dancing and solving crossword puzzles. Her home was a testament to her love for flowers.

She leaves behind her loving husband, Fred Metz; daughters, Penny Mayall and Cassandra Gunby; grandchildren, Jess Garriga, Sunny and Isaac Mayall; and three great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Also mourning her loss are her stepchildren, Charissa Geddings and Freddy Metz; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Helen Compton; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and David Sayers; and sister and brother-in-law, Adelaide and Jerry Looney. Irene was preceded in death by her brother Troy Compton, her parents, Ben and Lydia Compton, and her granddaughter, Dylan Gunby.

The Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North, South Carolina, is assisting the family during this time. Irene's life and legacy will be celebrated and remembered by all those she touched with her vibrant spirit and loving nature.

A memorial service will be held for Irene at Harmony Baptist Church; date soon to be announced.
