Harold Bruce Buckheister

Harold “Bruce” Buckheister, 74, of North, died Saturday, August 3, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. James McGee and Rev. Don Clendaniel officiating.Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors. The casket will be placed in the church at 2:00. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Fallaw, Willie Funchess, Billy Robinson, Dickie Jones, Joe Jeffcoat, Mike Jeffcoat, members of the Nelson Bass American Legion Post 78 and the American Legion Auxillary. Mr. Buckheister was born in Honea Path, SC, a son of the late William Walter and Sarah Coker Buckheister.He was a retired U.S. Navy Sr. Chief, former Mayor of North and retired from Civil Service. He was also Past Post Commander of Nelson Bass American Legion Post 78, a lifetime member of the NRA, a former boy scout and was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Joan Livingston Buckheister; children, Denise S. Buckheister, Dianne A. (Kane) McNeill, and J. Kirk (Kirsten) Wathen; five grandchildren, Miles McNeill, Kane McNeill, Carson McNeill, Kendall Wathen, and Reid Wathen; and two sisters, Nancy Solomonson and Patricia Nichols. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home in North and other times at the home of his wife. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nelson Bass American Legion Post 78.
