Edward “Eddie” Jason Eargle, 83, of Pelion, SC, passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning, May 25, 2023. Born on May 5, 1940, in Winnsboro, SC , he was the son of the late Joe Ben and Gertrude Lucas Eargle. He was a member of Edmund First Baptist Church, Lexington, SC. Upon graduation from Pelion High School in 1959, he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, serving aboard the USS Moctobi (ATF-105) for four years. His tour was spent mostly in the Pacific Ocean in places such as Japan, Hong Kong, the Midway Islands, and also Alaska. Upon his discharge from the Navy he was employed with Honeywell (Allied Signal) for almost four decades. He was always proud of having had near perfect attendance. Mr. Eargle was an avid Gamecock fan, an excellent horse shoe player, and loved to garden and work in his yard on Forts Pond. He had a large group of buddies, with whom he managed to go fishing at Santee nearly every year for forty years. His most recent trip was on his birthday this year with his son Jason. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle and was very proud of his two grandsons. Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 62 years, Stella King Eargle; daughters, Lucinda Eargle Millman (David) and Kristina Eargle (Jay); son, Jason Eargle; grandsons, Alex Millman (Riley) and Jake Millman; sisters in law, Laura King, Phillis King, Helen King (George), Patsy Eargle; brothers in law, Terry King, and Johnny King; and many special nieces, nephews, friends; and, his kitty Abby. In addition to his parents, Mr. Eargle was predeceased by his brothers Bobby Joe Eargle (Barbara) and Samuel Eugene Eargle (Patsy) and sister Geraldine Chapman (Howard). Funeral services will be held Monday, May 29, 2023 at Edmund First Baptist Church, 6256 Edmund Highway, Lexington, SC, officiated by Rev. Brandon Philips and Rev. Johnny Slice. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm - 3:00pm, the funeral will follow at 3.00pm and Burial will be held at King Grove Baptist Church, 1580 Highway 178, Swansea, SC.
