Dennis "Leonard" Herlong

Dennis "Leonard" Herlong, 80, of Swansea, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2021. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Butler officiating. Mr. Herlong was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Francis Marion Herlong and the late Carrie Livingston Herlong.He was retired as a lifelong truck driver for 38 years from M.L. Corley & Sons Lumber Mill and was a gentle giant. Survivors include a daughter, Valerie (David) Carter; sons, David L. (Cindy) Herlong, Jim Herlong and Dennis L. (Sherry) Herlong, II; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Harold L. Herlong; step-son, William Youngblood and a number of nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by brothers, Frank Herlong and James C. Herlong; a special friend, Sammy Wingard and two loving step-daughters, Barbara Jean Youngblood and Billie Jo Knight. Pallbearers will be David L. Herlong, Jim Herlong, Dennis Herlong II, William Herlong, Royce Herlong and John Herlong.Honorary pallbearers are David A. Herlong, Matthew Herlong, Mark Herlong and Accie Herlong. The casket spray is given by his loving grandchildren and great great nephew. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 pm on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home.
